pcp :: loop cover

Stumbled upon PCP's work thru Beautiful Decay's Anthology Issue #35, then realized that I'd first seen his work at OKOK in Seattle. I remember being absolutely enchanted. You can spend a lot of investigating all the details -- each work is a narrative. I really enjoyed the show... check out PCP's website

Rachel Plefger :: Love Hate

I guess it's just one of those things...you either love it, or you hate it...(I know, I know, that's a very bad joke...)...and then, of course, sometimes love and hate turn out to be the same thing, just depends on how you look at it... found it here, via here

tweel :: by michelin

michelin has been working hard to gain acceptance of these -- and to get them into as many choice applications as possible -- for awhile now. lots of different opinions on these. My opinion :: we're used to tires...and they give a nice visual weight to our cars, but I find the optically tricky see-thru wheels refreshing, in an unnerving, here's-the-naked-truth, so-learn-to-love-it sort of way...Some articles here for you :: press release, gizmag, webwombat

LG Chocolate phone

briefly mentioned in the monday morning must read last week, this lil' phone is just now reaching the US. I tried to find a bigger better pic of the pink one to post for y'all, but no luck. I have to say...I just retired my trusty old LG -- 2 years and too many encounters with water -- for a new RAZR and I'm really unhappy with the user interface. The RAZR sure is pretty on the outside, but the fun stops there. I wonder if the Chocolate is as nice to use as the one that I just gave up... read all about it somewhere else

blue marmalade :: polyrap & i b pop chair

polyrap wastepaper bin :: A colourful waste paper bin with an origami inspired design. polyrap comes in a wide selection of colours to suit any interior. We have cleverly designed this bin so you don't need a bin liner, because it can quickly be unfold, wiped clean and refolded.
i b pop chair :: i b pop has such a unique form, because we have taken a single sheet of plastic and turned it into a stunning contemporary chair. i b pop is perfect as a dining or occasional chair and can also bring easy style to any outdoor space. The colour options with a different outside and inside colour are ideally suited for making matching sets or inverted colour combinations.

light objects :: sustainable design competition

Sponsored by Core 77 :: "Light Objects" asks participants to submit design concepts--for any product, service or system--that are thoughtful, forward-looking, elegant and environmentally beneficial. Designers are encouraged to go farther than making their entries 'sustainable' or merely reducing the negative impact that production or use of an object has on the environment. Entries should push the concept of lightness in every way, from material selection and reduction to objects that actively improve our environment through use. The idea of "light objects" creates new opportunities for sustainable innovation in the future.

the kenguru

I want to celebrate, do a little dance in the street! I passed over the zoop, a very cool new electric car from Maison de Courreges to post this... The Kenguru is a great example of design used to empower people. There is no front seat -- the wheelchair user simply enters through the back door, positions himself into place and then locks the chair in place. found here

lift :: ooh ooh

I got a kick out of this guy...Lift says :: Breaking free of the conventions of contemporary furniture design, comes a very different kind of beast...OOH OOH is a larger-than-life, upholstered gorilla that comes apart to form lounge furniture.

gro design :: boom bag

Putting portable back into portable...This is a nifty concept -- and they are currently looking for a production partner... know anyone? About the boom bag :: it's an accessory for your favorite mp3 player, made from durable, weatherproof speaker fabric :: houses a full range speaker and rechargeable battery :: holds your mp3 player inside. I wish I could copy and paste this into my summer handbag. gro design, found here via here

concrete canvas :: the building in a bag

There's a lot of excitement over the recent conclusion of the Shelter in a Cart competition...The efforts to approach world problems with design have multiplied fantastically lately and so, in light of that, I also wanted to add the Concrete Canvas into the mix. It is not new, but it's neat and new to me...Taking inspiration from the compressive strength of an egg, the Concrete Canvas is a rapidly deployable hardened shelter that requires only water and air for construction. It can be deployed by a person without any training in under 40 minutes and is ready to use within 2 hours. plus, with a design life of over 10 years, (tents only survive for 2 years). more info, found here

street art :: banksy

banksy writes :: "Imagine a city where graffiti wasn't illegal, a city where everybody could draw wherever they liked. where every street was awash with a million colours and little phrases. Where standing at a bus stop was never boring. A city that felt like a living breathing thing which belonged to everybody, not just the estate agents and barons of big business. I magine a city like that aand stop leaning against the wall - it's wet." his site

diageo :: orinoco rum

winner, IOM3's Starpack Supreme Gold Award :: 'Commenting on the Oronoco bottle Terry Robins, chairman of the judgingpanel, said, “It features a unique use of materials blending a heavily embossed map on a leather sheath wrapped around a beautifully designed and technically clever glass bottle a tactile pack that just has to be touched and owned.”'

about the rum :: "Recipient of a gold medal at the 2005 San Francisco World Spirits Competition, Oronoco Rum offers light hints of vanilla on the nose, a crisp, clean taste and a smooth rounded finish...Oronoco is a product of renowned cachaca makers Vicente and Roberto Bastos Ribeiro's passion for creating high quality distillates."

blankblank :: rob zinn

I love the metaphor of light as sound...such a natural way to create ambience...let's see...I'll need one for that wall at home, and a few for my favorite haunt that's badly in need of a facelift, some for the office... more info

Cyclepods

They say :: "Cyclepods has created a form of cycle storage, shelter and parking like nothing out there at the moment. It not only looks modern, novel and exciting, but it also maximises space allowing 8 bikes to be stored in a 2metre diameter. The Cyclepod offers shelter which not only compliments the design, but also offers the possibility of advertising. The new product is more secure than any other form of cycle parking as cyclists can lock both the frame of the bike and the wheel to the unit using almost any type of lock. The Cyclepod is very low maintenance and parts are easy to replace if vandalized. Cyclepods are user friendly and bikes can be easily rolled up the unit to fit into place." more info

Andrew Maynard :: Essex St House

I like how he seems to rethink so many assumptions...Here, a wall can be a window and also a door and can disappear when you don't want it there and... And the website is neat too. more info
