IDSA NW : The shaggies Design award trophies
- I had the pleasure to design and manufacture the new awards for the shaggies design awards ( IDSA Northwest design awards)here is some quick shots of them, check the link for some more work in progress pictures.
Looking at the finished product, the words seems to disappear and reappear depending of the angle of vision.
I wanted to create that subtle read to reflect the process of a design award judging. A trained eye can see things differently , and if judges look at the competition entries the right way , they might discover that hidden quality that deserve a gold award.

Minus8 by Dana Krieger ( Astro)
-“Time is a gradient and we use timepieces to slice that gradient into meaningful increments”
The name refers to the UTC -8 time zone of the West Coast of the USA.
The process of anodizing aluminum and metal-finishing inspired Krieger to produce these incredibly eye catching pieces of art . The gradient effect of each 8 layers of MINUS 8 is created by layering gradually more intensely-colored discs of anodized metal, the anodizing process is also a reference to time as the color intensity as a direct relationship with the time you spend anodizing it.
Another process PVD has been explored to create the grey version :
"Further research showed that Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) was another industrial coating process with inherent time dependencies. A raw stainless piece is placed in a vacuum chamber where a hard coating accumulates over time. More time in the chamber produces a thicker coating and a more opaque color."
Apparently he's working on making prototypes right now, stay tuned.

The light bulb conspiracy
- seems like an interesting one to watch .
The synopsis:
Once upon a time... products were made to last. Then, in the 1920s, businessmen were struck by an insight: "A product that refuses to wear out is a tragedy of business!" Ever since then, manufacturers have been engineering their products to fail.
This film tells the story of Planned Obsolescence, showing how long-lasting light bulbs were suppressed by a secret cartel and how ladder-proof stockings disappeared without trace. Modern electronics come equipped with inbuilt 'death-dates', sending them to the landfills before their time.
But consumers have started rebelling, to save the planet and the economy...

stormtrooper made out of Adidas :all day i dream about stormtroopers
-Submitted to the Star Wars Remix Project, which challenges fans to create characters or other recognizable elements from the movies using everyday materials, the recycled headgear looks almost exactly like the real thing. Freehand Profit crafted the mask out of exclusive Adidas x Star Wars Superskate Mids, but it wasn’t easy. “This was the first piece that required more than one pair of shoes to create and it gave me hell,” he explains. “I pushed through and couldn’t be happier with the result.”

My Iphone is dead , i love aluminum
- I'm a materialist , for sure, i love products, i love toys i love stuff, it's in me, i'm trying to stop and try to get rid of the superficial but i can't,I just love stuff( and that might be why i'm an industrial designer).
But here i'm speaking about material, the kind of extra that you are looking for in everyday "stuff", by material i mean feelings, i mean emotions i mean pleasure, and this pleasure can be an easy one, take this iphone for example, it's been following me forever , in my pocket, in my bag, on my desk, falling , again and again, directly in contact with my keys , my pocket crap ,in contact with my life basically .
Every marks every deformation, every moment is engraved in this phone forever , and this is what i mean by "I'm a materialist" i just loved this phone beyond the interaction, beyond the updates i couldn't make anymore since the hardware was obsolete, this material" aluminum" kept me from replacing it with another piece of plastic junk(read iphone 2 or 3).
On top of this material patina pleasure i have to say that this phone went through hell , literally, he survived multiple crash , multiple abuse to finally die from water immersion ( i will pass the details here as this is a ridiculous story involving water, summer and booze )
And i'm pretty sure that the use of such a material has been helping the survival process of this product.
I heard that the iphone 5 might be made out of aluminum again and this is making me really happy, so i cross my fingers and i will wait, but i would never buy another product without thinking of the patina it could eventually gain after years of usage .
To all my peers industrial designers, the ultimate quest for green design might not be in the obvious, sustainable, recyclable or perishable materials but designing for long term usage might be smarter .
I would say sturdy, stable and upgradable is the key for tommorow's products.( pretty obvious but i wanted to place it here)
So long folks,i'm going to find a spot to show off my phone in my house, after all he's still carrying lots of things beyong data on him.

Nokta and OFF2011 by Onur Senturk
Nokta is an abstract short film project which has creative, distinctive style of production and is an improvisation of organic pieces while considering themes like power, control and luck. Using low-budget equipment and with the combination of actual camera shooting, 2d and 3d animation techniques, the film alters the reality and physics of the real world with the help of the liquid and dynamic simulations’ impact.

Year Zero. Year Alpha. Time to turn our back on the past. To just look forward. Upwards. Fearless of being blinded by the sun. It's time to set up new rules, to
invent new games. To forget about the "re-" and the "post-". To become kids again and discover the world. Another one. It's time to be revolutionary. There is
no longer a present to determine us, because the present is us. We are the future. And the future will be just like we want it to be.
2011 is OFFF's Year Zero. The year the festival will voluntarily forget its past and once again reinvent itself. In a new place. With new areas. With fresh ideas and
the spirit of those who start something. Something big. Different. Better.
From OFFF we stand up to the passage of time. We reject it. We have decided not to age. Our route page is blank. Our map, waiting to be drawn. Nothing ties us.
Nothing is forbidden. Nothing is done. There is no limit. Year Zero. Tabula rasa. Look, the dawn is breaking. It's a new day rising.

seattle pionner square art walk: carl faulkner
-CArl Faulkner is a visual artist born in eureka ca,
raised in manitou springs, and currently residing in seattle wa
Carl Faulkner art is just So violently attractive, it's definitely eye catching and mind blowing, the very soft and fluorescent colors that are all over his studio are just contrasting just the right amount with the visual energy that the models express.
proportions are perfect, models are gorgeous, and there is enough Gory, sexy craziness in here to make it unique and awesome.
Carl Faulkner's work universally captures a provocative and playful love of color. He explores themes of neoteny, sexuality, fantasy and contemporary subculture. He is based in Seattle WA, and holds his BFA from Cornish College of the Arts.
paintings captured here are : Dripping Defiance and Joyful Lasciviousness, for better quality images go visit his website through the more infos link.
