MINUS-8 : MARK 3 Designed in California, USA

TIME IS RELATIVE

In the International Date System, the West Coast of the United States carries the label Coordinated Universal Time Standard -8 (CUT - 8). The MINUS 8 brand, consisting of products designed in this West Coast culture, is proud of its position on the world stage and takes its name from this international nomenclature. Time is relative. We are only aware of its passing if change occurs. The MINUS 8 watch references our dependence on change through a series of subtle color shifts, each step only visible in the context of the others. This color shift is achieved through the process of Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD.) PVD is an industrial coating process which is inherently time dependent. A raw stainless piece is placed in a vacuum chamber where a hard coating accumulates over time. More time in the chamber produces a thicker coating and a more opaque color.

The Mark 3 is our starting point because its initial presentation reveals the brand’s central design ethos—bold simplicity. As the face transitions from right to left, the unique stainless steel, PVD coated split case design creates a powerful line of demarcation between the busy past and a simplified future. An elemental three-hand movement stresses its fundamental point-of-view, while the inclusion of a reprogrammable NFC chip embedded in the silicone wristband allows the user to extend a single-minded function from the watch into our digital life.
The CONCEPT 24’s face architecture explores the layers that separate us from the essence of time and presents us with the fundamentals—three-hand movement, 24 hour scale, month, date and weekday. It’s housing utilizes a completely original design strategy that stacks individual PVD coated/colored stainless steel layers to create an internal/external gradient effect and visual flow down to the watch face. The impact is bold, and simple. CONCEPT 24 takes the idea of deliberate functionality one step further by adding an integrated, programmable NFC chip into the silicone band so wearers can automate a single task in their digital life

Intel North Cape :A detachable Tablet done Right.

Windows 8 crosses the boundaries from traditional desktop computing to mobile touch user experience. Intel’s latest Fourth Gen Intel® Core™ Processor supports both the high performance requirements of traditional PC experience and the low power and weight requirements of mobile touch applications.

Intel and ARTEFACT embarked on a journey to build “North Cape,” a premium consumer-focused 13” convertible computer, whose ingenious features and capabilities would illustrate the potential of detachable tablets in the future of home computing. The focus of the project was to optimize the device both for touch and productivity, without adding cumbersome mechanisms or interactions. Our ultimate goal was to enable a seamless transition between the modes, in order to create a truly differentiated experience.
