While in Shanghai we attempted to see the 6th Shanghai Biennale. I say "attempted" because we arrived right as the museum was closing. That was a big disappointment. However, we did get to see the outdoor installations. The Halong Kellong piece was really interesting. Mixing the design language of Harley Davidson with that of the Chinese work tractor, this piece played with the intersection of the western & eastern worlds in the realm of blue collar adventure -- very unusual. Not only did they have the machines (2) on display, they also had the inside of the trailer on display. Inside -- a video that presumably ran during regular hours, pictures documenting the exhibition of the pieces, pink glowing light, white shag (unless I invented that in my imagination...)... The entire display - themed "hyper design" -- looked promising.
